Time-piece designed by master watchmaker

In the early 1940’s, master watchmaker Ilvo Fontana was commissioned by Mussolini’s war office to design a time-piece for the crème de la crème of the Italian Navy.

These designs never went into production and it was another 60 years until one of Ilvo’s relatives, Italo, re-discovered the designs and saw how timeless and striking they still were.

Italo Fontana spent seven years developing the brand, and in 2005 teamed up with Mounir Moufarrige, the luxury-goods guru. Since this pairing, the U-Boat brand has flourished.

Synonymous with bold design and strength of character, the attention grabbing and ultra-masculine U-Boat watches are statement-pieces on a grand scale.

One of the trademark design features is the crown, which is on the left rather than the right of the case, achieved by reversing the movement in the watch - a unique element which opens up the wrist’s full movement.

Combining precious materials, Swiss movements and Italian craftsmanship the cool ‘Classico’ and sporty ‘Flightdeck’ series already have many fans worldwide with celebrity owners including David Beckham, Giorgio Armani and Tom Cruise.

All U-BOAT watches are handmade in Italo Fontana’s prestigious atelier located in Lucca (Toscana), Italy.
