Weddings, honeymoons, anniversaries & first nights
Holbeck Ghyll has recently been recognised as one of the most romantic hotel settings in Britain. With a number of rooms licensed for marriages, the hotel can also be hired for exclusive use for wedding parties. What’s more, the Miss Potter suite with its very own hot tub overlooking Lake Windermere, is perfect for first nights, honeymoons or any special occasion.
Dining delights
Dining at Holbeck Ghyll is a memorable and gastronomic experience. Available for residents and non-residents, guests start the evening with champagne and canapés before sitting down in the oak-panelled dining room to enjoy a three-course Michelin Star meal. To accompany such a gourmet feast the hotel has a wonderful selection of over 280 wines including a French Regional wine list as well as fantastic finds from the New World.
Conference, meetings & incentive
Holbeck Ghyll has the perfect location and facilities to suit any exclusive meeting, incentive or banqueting requirements. The entire hotel is available for sole use, or the luxurious boardroom, which overlooks Lake Windermere, can be hired separately for meetings for up to 30 people. Holbeck Ghyll can also arrange a number of activities including 4X4 off road driving, clay pigeon shooting, hot air ballooning, guided walks, horse riding, golf and team building exercises such as orienteering and raft building.
Background information
Built in the 19th Century, Holbeck Ghyll was bought in 1888 by Lord Lonsdale, one of the richest men in the country, to use as his hunting lodge. In 1973 it was converted to a hotel and remained in the same ownership until 1988 when it was acquired by David & Patricia Nicholson who have lovingly refurbished and developed the property for the past 20 years.
During this time, Holbeck Ghyll has received many coveted awards including Michelin Star status for the last nine consecutive years, Condé Nast Johansens Taittinger Wine List of the Year 2007 and twice voted Cumbria Tourist Board Hotel of the Year. It also just so happens to be a favourite haunt of A-list Hollywood actress, Renée Zellwegger, who stayed at Holbeck Ghyll for two weeks (along with the directors) when she was filming Miss Potter! Other notable celebrities who have stayed at Holbeck Ghyll include actors Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love & The Merchant of Venice) and Lloyd Owen (Miss Potter & Monarch of the Glen).
