New luxury hotel and golf resort to open in St Mellion, Cornwall

Outstanding golf, breathtaking scenery, clear air and a fantastic location mean St Mellion in Cornwall already has an international reputation as the perfect spot for a holiday. Now it’s about to get even better.

St Mellion International Resort has been chosen to host the revised English Open from 2009 for a minimum of five years. The 21st edition of the legendary event will unfold on the spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature Course – and competitors and spectators are in for a treat.

Crown Golf, which owns and runs the St Mellion International Resort, is pouring £100m into redeveloping the resort, in what is believed to be the biggest single private investment into Cornwall since the Eden Project.

Plans include building a new 80-bedroom, state-of-the-art luxury hotel with conference and leisure centre, pool complex, spa, crèche, restaurant, tennis courts, members’ bar and clubhouse.

New golf facilities will include a Crown Golf Academy and driving range, which added to the existing Nicklaus Signature championship course and the Old Course, will further boost St Mellion’s reputation as an unrivalled golfing destination.

To complement these 21st century facilities, the award-winning developer Living Villages, in partnership with Highmore Homes, is building three new villages of holiday homes at the resort.

Nestled among the 450 acres of rolling countryside, yet just yards from the clubhouse, the villages will offer attractive and eco-friendly homes that blend comfortably into their surroundings.

Positioned alongside the 17th fairway of the Nicklaus course, the houses boast golf buggy spaces, and generous balconies to make the most of the views.

Work is already well underway on the first village, West Wollaton, which will offer 66 two to five-bedroom houses and apartments built in contemporary Cornish style. Features include double-height sun spaces, designed to make the most of the Cornish sun, with log-burning back boilers and solar panels on the roof.

The design and street-scene of the villages is inspired by a study of traditional Cornish village layouts, and is intended to create the feel of an established community.

With prices starting at just £234,450 for a two-bed apartment, and very low bills thanks to the energy-efficient design, plus the obvious rental potential, buying a home in St Mellion makes obvious financial sense. But once you’ve visited, and seen the golf course, the countryside, and the exciting local attractions ranging from the pioneering Eden Project to 700-year-old Buckland Abbey and romantic and remote Dartmoor, buying at the Living Villages development at St Mellion will be a decision you make with your heart.
