Bentley Continental GTC
Bentley is a marque associated with an image of elegance, wealth and sophistication, and the Continental GTC has all these attributes but it’s also a beast with a phenomenal performance and hair raising thrills.
Its modern styling with distinctive rear oval lights, aggressive and imposing front grille and two huge oval exhaust pipes, in fact everything about this car, is solid, including the two doors, which are very wide and very heavy.
However, once you get behind the wheel you could be handling a much smaller car. It is easy to manoeuvre with precise and agile steering and no wallowy feeling when cornering. A chorus of parking sensors assist reversing and the wing mirrors automatically drop giving an excellent rear view. You are totally in control at all times; well, as much as you can be in control of 552bhp.
The sumptuous interior boasts the finest leather, wood and polished metals and demonstrates the unparalleled craftsmanship which goes into making each Bentley. Like a tailor made suit, with individualised hand stitching, the seats are very comfortable and fit beautifully.
An unusually practical sports car, the Continental GTC offers adequate room in the rear for two adults and when the roof is in place, there is a surprising amount of head room too. Two golf bags will fit into the recesses, even with the roof stowed in the boot.
The three layer soft fabric roof lowers in 25 seconds with the touch of one button and a satin metal wind-stop can be attached across the rear seats which folds and stores in the boot when not in use.
But of course, the real thrill begins when you turn the ignition key, which is very usefully sited to the right of the steering wheel.
Derek Bennett, sales manger at Bentley’s Mayfair dealership, Jack Barclay, says the Continental GTC will race to 60mph in just 4.8 seconds and then go on to a top speed of 195mph, oh, and it does brake on a postage stamp! He explains: “Whilst the Bentley Continental GTC will go hell for leather on the race track, it will also cruise in an effortless manner, as if you are being elegantly persuaded forward.”
Bentley Mulliner, the marque’s coachbuilding division based at the factory in Crewe, has designed an exclusive package of features that further enhance the car’s sports credentials such as 20” alloys, Bentley marquetry to the seats, diamond quilted hide, drilled alloy sport foot-pedals and a gear lever finished in knurled chrome.
