Westwood named European Tour golfer of the year
Lee Westwood has been named as the European Tour’s golfer of the year for 2009.
The 36-year old Englishman was been rewarded for his fine form, which included 11 top-10 finishes from 13 events after the US Open, culminating in victory at the Dubai World Championship.
This is the third time in his career that Westwood – currently ranked number four in the world – has won the award, having previously received the honour in 1998 and 2000.
“It is a fantastic honour to win and cap a wonderful season for me and all those who have helped me. I have won this award twice before but this probably means more to me in recognising how I have fought my way back to the top,” said Westwood.
