Dougherty wins BMW International
England’s Nick Dougherty held off a late challenge from Rafa Echenique to win the BMW International Open by one shot.
Dougherty began the day in fine form, posting birdies at four of the opening five holes to pull level with overnight leader Retief Goosen.
Successive birdies on 13, 14 and 15 saw Dougherty establish a comfortable lead, but some great shots by Argentine’s Echenique – including an albatross at the last hole – saw him close the gap to one shot.
However, Dougherty held his nerve and parred the last three holes for his third, and most prestigious, European Tour victory.
“I have a great team around me and it’s great to be back where I feel I belong,” said Dougherty.
