Maritime Chic
Inspiration
This season the DAKS Menswear Spring summer collection takes inspiration from the traditional British coastal town of Whitstable as well as looking back at the DAKS archive. References are also made to the jet set lifestyle of the Riviera.
The colour palette for Spring summer plays strongly on the nautical theme with red white and blue combined with more classic shades of black, slate grey and pale grey. Sandy tones of beige and khaki are also used, with pale blue acting as a highlight. For high summer fresh pastels of turquoise, lemon and yellow inject vibrancy to the collection and pocket squares feature throughout to add hints of accent colours.
Maritime outerwear is key with a white technical fabric sailing jacket, lightweight windcheaters and Reefer jackets featuring heavily. Nautical stripes appear in the shape of short-sleeved jerseys, polo shirts, long sleeve knits and even knitted ties. Suits have a sharper silhouette with a shorter length jacket for summer. Key detailing includes internal chocolate piping and twin coloured stitch detailing in the DAKS colours of camel and vicuna. Elegant shirts in pinstripes and block colours are co-ordinated with a focused tie range of small structure designs.
The main message for fabrics this season is lightweight and soft, reflecting the change in global temperatures. Suitings are lightweight and refined with the main cloths being fine pinstripes, coloured pin dots and semi plain designs. Jacketing concentrates on Wool silk, and linen silk mixes. Details are taken from canvas sails and sailing club memorabilia and appear in the form of rope drawstrings, silver eyelets and buckle fastenings. The traditional DAKS crest appears on a nautical style long sleeve knit playing reference to sailing attire.
